Can you remember a time when it seemed like your daughter had no control over their emotions? Were there any of those times you wished they had shown more control?
Perhaps, it was during an argument when you saw an unexpected rage surge up, shoot out of them, and then they said something they probably wish they could take back. Maybe, it was a time when they expressed some overwhelming guilt or fear over something they now know was not worth all the fretting.
Wouldn’t you like to help them avoid these emotions spilling over in the future? All parents want to see their children in as little pain as possible, and feeling those extreme spikes of emotion is painful. It can also create serious trauma and turmoil throughout their lives.
What if we told you there was a scientific method to help control those emotional situations moving forward? That method is referred to as neurofeedback therapy.
Getting Past the Intimidating Term: “Neurofeedback”
Anything new to us can feel intimidating. That is natural. However, there is no reason to feel any hesitancy toward neurofeedback therapy. As the late great American astrophysicist Carl Sagan once said, “The brain is like a muscle. When it is in use, we feel very good. Understanding is joyous.” Like anything, once you understand neurofeedback therapy better, we feel you will be amazed at its potential.
Neurofeedback therapy has been around, studied, and advanced for most of our lives. It was first introduced in the late 1950s and has been a staple of neuroscience ever since.
How Does Neurofeedback Therapy Work?
In short, neurofeedback therapy works to give feedback to the individual in real time so that they can begin to see how their brain reacts to certain situations and stimuli. Over time this can help the individual recognize how their brain will react in those situations. Then they can utilize that information to regulate their emotions.
For example, in that argument situation mentioned earlier, the individual could recognize where their brain will take them emotionally and use tools to avoid those extreme feelings of rage. In the unwarranted nervous situation, they can use what they have learned about themself to calm their minds and ease their worry.
Here at Clearview Girls Academy, we have seen neurofeedback therapy work for many of our students. Many of these students were struggling with moderate to severe anxiety and depression.
Why Use Neurofeedback to Treat Anxiety and Depression?
Anxiety and depression are affecting a larger and larger population of young women every day. Sadly, because anxiety and depression are now so prevalent, many people can dismiss them as commonplace or, even worse, “normal.”
There is nothing “normal” about anxiety and depression. Ask anyone who struggles with it, and they will tell you that it can make them feel excessively lonely, desperate, and hopeless. In extreme cases, it can even cause self-harm or thoughts of suicide. At Clearview Girls Academy, we cannot let those symptoms go untreated. It is too devastating to ignore.
Those are the reasons why we here at Clearview Girls Academy use every possible measure to help our students recover from anxiety and depression. Some of those measures are neuroscientific, and we are grateful and excited to have them to help your daughter succeed.
How Does Neurofeedback Fit Into the Broader Picture at Clearview Girls Academy?
Scientific methods are not the only platform we use at Clearview Girls Academy. We use individualized plans that focus on three aspects of our students’ recovery. Those aspects cover the mind, body, and soul, respectively.
Academics
Academic excellence is something we pride ourselves on here at Clearview Girls Academy. We are a fully accredited middle and high school. We use this accreditation to help our students grow intellectually and keep up academically with the rest of their peer groups.
Athletics
We also focus on athletics here at Clearview Girls Academy. There is a saying that goes, “Move a muscle, change a thought.” That is exactly why we feel that the open nature that surrounds our beautiful ranch here in Montana provides the perfect backdrop for our students to strengthen their bodies alongside their minds.
Spirituality
Lastly, we incorporate a program of faith and spirituality here at Clearview Girls Academy. We feel that a strong spiritual foundation can help our students go far and better handle the situations they are sure to face after their time spent here.
Using the Brain Beyond Treatment
The famed neuroscientist Michael Merzenich once said, “Your brain – every brain – is a work in progress. It is ‘plastic.’ From the day we’re born to the day we die, it continuously revises and remodels, improving or slowly declining, as a function of how we use it.” Here at Clearview Girls Academy, we want to show your daughter how she can use her brain to take her to places she cannot yet even imagine.
Neurofeedback therapy is one therapeutic modality of many we use at Clearview Girls Academy to help treat anxiety and depression. We are here to help you better understand how these new innovations in neuroscience can help your daughter recover from her mental health or behavioral issues. We want to blend these blessings of science with the other wonderful offerings at our ranch to help your daughter overcome the obstacles currently getting in the way of being the young woman you know she can be. We are here to “light her path.” Call Clearview Girls Academy at (888) 796-5484 for more information on neurofeedback therapy and how we can help you and your family.
