We Treat Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in Girls at Clearview Horizon
Cleaview Girls Academy, a school for wayward girls, helps troubled girls with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or OCD is an anxiety disorder characterized by unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas and sensations. Girls with OCD have a never-ending cycle of unwelcome thoughts (obsessions) that demand defusing them with engaging in compulsive activities. Even though it may be known that the thoughts or behaviors are excessive, the OCD girl will get only fleeting relief by performing the compulsive behaviors.
Anxieties can develop including fear of germs, dirt, illness, mistakes, insistence for symmetry or exactness, an unwanted urge to harm someone, unacceptable sexual or inappropriate thoughts or actions.
OCD is marked by common compulsions that may be seen in excessively ritualistic behavior, like repeatedly counting or saying specific phrases, repetition of everyday activities (hand washing, in/out of a doorway, turning off the stove), hoarding (especially items with no discernible value), eating foods in a very specific sequence, refusal to shake hands.
*Note: while sometimes used interchangeably, OCD is not to be confused with OCPD, or Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder. An OCD sufferer has unwanted thoughts and knows they are senseless, while an OCPD sufferer believes her thinking to be proper and natural.
Clearview Girls Academy is an Ideal Setting to Help Your Daughter with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Left untreated, your daughter might struggle with other issues (although not all caused directly by OCD): depression, eating or anxiety disorders, substance abuse, an overall, poor quality of life, suicidal thoughts (or behavior).
Cognitive behavior therapy is most efficient, often together with medication, in helping her face up to her OCD fears and anxieties in healthy ways. Anti-depressants (particularly ones that interact with the brain’s serotonin production) may also be helpful in relieving symptoms of OCD.
