In the Bible, Psalm 143:8 reads, “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.” This passage is representative of the ultimate trust we can have in life and in a Higher Power. However, we must also have trust in other aspects of our life. Essentially, if we truly trust in our Higher Power, then that trust will inevitably trickle down onto everything else we do. This includes trusting the process during treatment at Clearview
What Does Trusting the Process Look Like in Recovery?
Now, it is important to understand that trusting the process in recovery does not mean having blind trust without taking action. After all, trust is a two-way street and the recovery professionals also want to trust that you and your daughter are serious about recovery. In recovery, being serious means being diligent in researching treatment options.
However, once you have completed our research, made a connection with a recovery center, and feel confident in your competence, it becomes time to trust the process. This means accepting the center’s expertise as you accept their help.
Trusting the Process: Accepting the Expertise and Help of Others
In 12-Step recovery, there is a saying, “This a We program, not a Me program.” What this means is that recovery requires a community. When we isolate ourselves, we stand at a much higher risk of convincing ourselves that our issues aren’t that big of a deal. We may think they were all blown out of proportion.
A community will be quick to remind us that this was certainly not the case and that we are all in recovery for a reason. That reason is that we were powerless over addictive substances. The multi-tiered recovery process at Clearview Horizon Girls Academy also works as a reminder that a life in recovery is way better than anything available before recovery.
Trusting the Process: Stepping Back and Allowing Space
As parents, you will be called upon to step back and allow for the recovery process to begin uninterrupted. We understand that this can be difficult.
After all, being able to let her go when she needed help was hard enough. Then you’re being asked to give her space too. However, this is only necessary in the beginning so she can focus on the process of her recovery. At Clearview, this process happens in a series of levels.
The Levels Process at Clearview
Our five-level process is relatively straightforward at our recovery center. It begins with addressing a student’s refusal to get well and ends with her teaching the class of students behind her how to succeed.
In between levels one and five is level two, which helps our students find their identity and define their values. Level three helps them further establish their identity while also taking on small leadership roles. Then, level four is all about honing in on the identity they desire to have moving forward. This level is also about shaping the type of leader they want to be in level five as well as when they transition back out into the world.
Trusting the Process: Connecting When the Time Is Right
Now, as our students progress through these levels and parents see their progress, hopefully, their trust in the process will only grow. The good news is that as our daughters move up in the levels, we will become more involved.
This increased involvement includes participating in our parent workshops that will not only inform you of the progress your daughter has made but can also help begin to heal as the entire family. Now, this healing can happen both while your daughter is still in the recovery center as well as after she leaves. In fact, the latter is quite crucial for long-term success.
Keeping the Process Going: Recovery After the Treatment Center
It is important for you as parents to not only trust the process of recovery at Clearview but also to continue that process after your daughter returns home after treatment. This includes holding her accountable when she strays from her values as well as showing her praise when she demonstrates leadership abilities.
Ultimately, we created our process on a model of trust and honesty at Clearview Horizon Girls Academy, which is also why we want you to trust and be honest with us as parents as well. Psalm 121:3 states, “He will not let your foot slip – he who watches over you will not slumber.”
We believe that God does this for us. This is why we honor God by doing the same for each and every one of our students.
From psychiatrists, nurses, therapists, teaching staff, and parents, everybody here at Clearview plays a part on the team to ensure your child’s success.
